Message from NHS Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group;
"Share your views on how GPs communicate with patients Do you live in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire or Berkshire? Are you registered with a GP? The local NHS is inviting you to complete a short survey about how your GP practice communicates with you.
The survey should take just five minutes to complete and is open until Sunday 21 November."
Important Message from the providers of Patient Access
Patient Access is the portal through which patients are able to access online services such as ordering repeat prescriptions and booking appointments. The system is provided by a company called EMIS Health which has issued the following warning;
“We have received reports from both Patient Access users and people who have never registered for the service, that they have received Covid passport emails purporting to be from Patient Access.
We would like to share the following guidance from Patient Access for your information, and for you to share with your patients where appropriate.
We advise users of Patient Access to check the name and email address of the sender, all emails from Patient Access will come via an email address that ends in @patientaccess.com. We advise users never to click on any log in links that you receive via email but to visit the site via the address bar of your browser instead so that you know you are on the genuine Patient Access log in page. You can find more information and guidance on our information security page here: https://www.patientaccess.com/security
We strongly advise users to set up their Memorable Word security feature, as well as using biometrics (fingerprint ID) if they use the app.
Email addresses used to register for Patient Access account are secure. We do not share any data and no data is ever saved or stored on any device you use to access Patient Access.”
Healthwatch Oxfordshire is an independent organisation with a mission to ensure that the views of patients are taken into account by those running health and social care in our county and beyond. Healthwatch Oxfordshire would like to hear about your experiences of contacting your GP surgery, including:
- What happened when you called?
- How long were you waiting before you spoke to somebody?
- Did you get the information or service you called for?

A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.
Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems, will still get one but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.
Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.
If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.
It became clear at the start of June 2021 that NHS Digital was planning to introduce a data sharing system called GP Data for Planning & Research on the 1st July 2021. Under this scheme, patient data would be transferred to NHS Digital and used (usually in anonymised form) for Planning & Research Purposes.
The lack of publicity given to this project attracted the widespread media attention. The Government decided to defer its implementation until September 2021 so that they could have more time to make patients aware of it.
In a letter dated 19/7/2021, Jo Churchill, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Primary Care made it clear that the system will not be implemented at all until the following are in place;
- the ability to delete data if patients choose to opt-out of sharing their GP data with NHS Digital, even if this is after their data has been uploaded
- the backlog of opt-outs has been fully cleared
- a Trusted Research Environment has been developed and implemented in NHS Digital
- patients have been made more aware of the scheme through a campaign of engagement and communication

Patient online access to clinical correspondence has been temporarily suspended due to technical difficulties. We expect this to be resolved in a matter of days, at which point the service will become available again.
Dr Ari Rafiq joined the practice as a salaried GP. Dr Rafiq will be working on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Dr Edward Flather joined the practice as a GP partner.
The number of coronavirus cases in Oxford is rising, particularly among 20 to 30 year olds. While you may not experience the worst of the symptoms yourself, you may pass it onto loved ones who do. It is up to each of us to stop the virus spreading. Play your part to help stop the spread: keep your distance, wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering, and avoid car sharing if you can. If you have any coronavirus symptoms, you must self-isolate immediately and call 119 to book a test. And if you’ve been abroad to a country that is not on the exemption list, you must by law self-isolate for 14 days. Visit: www.gov.uk
NHS Volunteer Responders have been supporting tens of thousands of people across England during COVID-19, with tasks including; collecting shopping, delivering prescribed medicines and making ‘check in and chat’ calls.
Restrictions may be easing but NHS Volunteer Responders are still here to help those self-isolating, including people with long term health conditions or who have been advised to shield at any point.

Change in Partnership
Dr Peter Grimwade retired from the partnership on 30/9/2019. He has played a very significant role in the success of the practice since he joined as a partner in 2008 and will be missed by his colleagues and patients alike.
Dr Dominic Matthews joined the practice as a salaried GP in January 2019 and will be joining Drs Uden and Ward as a partner on 1/10/2019.
Primary Care Network
Bampton Medical Practice has joined the Rural West Primary Care Network. This means that in the years ahead, the practice will be working more closely with Broadshires Health Centre, Burford Surgery and Charlbury Medical Centre in planning and delivering services for the 31,000 patients registered with one of these practices.
The NHS Long Term Plan
The Government’s 10-year plan sets out how the additional investment of £20.5bn promised in 2018 will be spent. A number of key areas are in line for a funding boost including the digitalisation of care delivery, access to mental health services and community health services. Spending on out-of-hospital care through general practice and community health services will increase by £4.5bn over the next five years. Older people will be supported through more personalised care and stronger community and primary care services.
Community multidisciplinary teams will work within new primary care networks which will comprise groups of neighbouring GP practices, typically covering 30-50,000 people. Community multidisciplinary teams will be staffed by GPs, pharmacists, district nurses, community geriatricians, dementia workers and AHPs such as physiotherapists and podiatrists/chiropodists. The Plan specifies that primary care networks will be joined by social services and the voluntary sector.

Online Access to Medical Records
If you wish to view your medical records online, please read this leaflet and complete this application form.
If you have already registered as a user of our patient portal (called “Patient Access”) please send us your completed application form, marked for the attention of the Practice Manager.
If you have not yet registered as a user of Patient Access, please ask our reception desk to organise this for you. You will be asked to show your passport or photo-driving licence.
We will call you when your application has been processed. This can take up to 10 days. There is no charge for this service.
Carterton Health Centre - reception staffing
Reception at Carterton will soon reduce to a single member of staff each morning.
The clinical team will remain as it is currently but all repeat prescriptions will be prepared at Bampton
